The IABSE USA NG held the elections for the Board of Directors this past April, which resulted in the new board being conformed as follows: Maria Grazia Bruschi, Chair; Salvatore DiBernardo, Secretary/Treasurer; Directors: Paul Skelton, and newly elected John Duntemann, Scott McNary, Chiara Rosignoli and Ben Soule. In addition, Joe Tortorella remains as Board Member Emeritus.  The New Board thanks the efforts of previous USA – NG Chair Jon McGormley, who last September became Vice President of IABSE and a member of the Executive Committee for the term 2021-2025.

On May 13, Working Commission 1 and the US NG jointly organised the second Duo Webinar; this time on the subject of “Seismic Isolation: Concepts, Research and Applications”, presented by Professor Michael C. Constantinou, SUNY Distinguished Professor at the University at Buffalo, New York, US and Zhu Zhongyi, Chief Structural Engineer of the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design.   The Seminar was well attended with over 135 attendees.  Moderators were Maria Pina Limongelli, Eng., PhD, Assoc. Prof. Politecnico di Milano, Dept. of Architecture, Built Environment and Construction; and Salvatore Di Bernardo, president of Ciorba Group, a US based transportation company specialized in bridge inspection, asset management and design.

Future of Design - NYC 2020

IABSE presents Future of Design NYC for the fourth time in September 2020.  Join us for a series of events dedicated to synthesizing new ideas and discussing active issues in the engineering and architecture community!

The theme of Future of Design NYC 2020 is Acceleration & Deceleration. Designers and related built environment professionals are often caught between the fast-paced flexibility that a project demands and the slow pace of change of industry practices.  This year’s program will evaluate the effects of acceleration on the built environment and on designing with social responsibility; it will also explore ideas and innovative practices that developed as a result of - or in an attempt to better harness - those shifts. It will approach these issues from perspectives of both engineering and architecture, in order to contextualize designers’ voices in transformative built environment initiatives.

FoDNYC 2020 will occur as a series of 5 events hosted online, from September 15th - 29th. Check our website and social media (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) as we provide updates on program sessions and speakers. Tickets are available now!

To ensure the webinar link gets emailed to you, we strongly recommend registering for the events at least 24 hours before they take place.

In order to make FoDNYC more accessible for our audience this year, we have adopted a Pay-What-You-Wish ticket price. Net proceeds from our ticket sales will be donated to charities supporting architecture and engineering education initiatives.
