Task Group 1.13
Ship Collision with Bridges Mission Statement/Objectives SED 4 on Ship Collision with Bridges The interaction between Vessel Traffic and Bridge Structures was issued in 1993 and has been widely used as a reference document. It is one of the most successful SEDs, and in order to keep it relevant after 30 years, it needs to be updated and supplemented. The basis for the update may be recent events with ship impact as well as workshops and symposia held with the topic of ship impact:
Scope & Limitation The scope is an update of the present SED 4, with new available information on impact forces, probabilities, etc. The scope comprises at least the following topics described in the chapters of the original SED 4:
The activities cover ship collisions and impact forces on bridge located at sea, straits, rivers and lakes. Interaction with TG1.5 may be relevant for collection of records of ship impact cases, and interaction with Commission 5 will be pursued – in particular with respect to protection structures of existing bridges. The update of SED4 will respect Ole Damgaard Larsen similar to SED5 which was originally written by Jörg Schneider in 1997 and updated by Ton Vrouwenvelder in 2017. In addition to the update of SED4, the scope of TG1.13 may include workshops, special sessions and articles on the topic of 'Ship Collision with Bridge'. Expected Project Output
