Limin SUN Gong WU
On behalf of the Organisers of IABSE Congress Nanjing 2022, we sincerely welcome all the participants, our colleagues and friends to Nanjing, a beautiful city with a history of over 3000 years. In the evolving cities, buildings and bridges connect people and environments by crossing natural barriers. One of the important responsibilities of structural engineers is to promote the harmony between structures and humans, environment and society, and eventually leading to technical progress, innovation and development. Therefore, we chose “Bridges and Structures: Connection, Integration and Harmonisation” as the congress theme. Nanjing, the host city of the congress, has long been a major cultural, educational, research and tourism center in China.
It is the capital city of Jiangsu province and the second largest city in the Eastern China region, with a population of 8.5 million. Historically, Nanjing has been popularly known as "The Capital City of Six Dynasties". Nanjing, as an ancient capital of China, provides a perfect example of a harmonised city, where modern bridges and structures, environment and society live in harmony with numerous ancient historical tourist attractions.
The Congress is to be held jointly with the 25th National Bridge Conference of the Chinese Civil Engineering Society, and will adopt a hybrid format with both options available for online and onsite participation, leaving decisions to the individual participant due to the pandemic and associated travel restrictions. The online events will be held on a comprehensive virtual and hybrid event platform with fully customizable 3D graphical functionality, providing a more realistic and engaging experience than ever before. Collaborate with us in gathering together academics, researchers, practitioners, policy-makers and service-users in our field, and share your practices and experiences with this community.
Looking forward to meeting you at Nanjing Congress online or onsite.
