Project Description:
The Lancang River Bridge of Dali-Ruili Railway located in Yunnan Province, China, adopts 342m main span deck reinforced concrete X-style arch bridge with stiffening skeleton to cross the deep V-shape gorge, and pioneers the construction technology of double vertical rotation of the steel stiffening skeleton of arch ribs.
Judges Comments
Difficult access conditions demanded an innovative approach to construct this 342m span concrete arch bridge. Steel truss skeletons for the arch ribs were provided with hinges so they could be assembled lying back on the valley slopes supported on temporary works, with prefabricated segments delivered by overhead cable crane. Once assembled, each rib was rotated into its final position using a series of cable jacks, and then the concrete was cast around the skeleton and the remainder of the structure completed.
