News from the Lower Silesian Branch of the Polish Society of Bridge Engineers

The Lower Silesian Branch of the Polish Society of Bridge Engineers, a Collective Member of the IABSE, is focused on the constant development of its experienced engineers, as well as the younger generation. For many years, training on - “Modern Bridge Building” has been organised in the Lower Silesia region, Wrocław. These events include presentations by recognized engineers, technical discussions and social meetings - thereby enhancing cooperation and relationships between bridge building colleagues.  The subject of the last event, was based on design issues of bridge structures along the new, road connection in Wrocław called “Aleja Wielkiej Wyspy”.

This year Paweł Hawryszków (Asst. Prof. Dr., WUST), Secretary of the Polish National Group was elected as the Chair of the Lower Silesian Branch of the Polish Society of Bridge Engineers. During the pandemic, together with the WUST team and IABSE, he had organised the first Online IABSE Symposium Wrocław in 2020. Now, in his new role, he plans to continue important traditions of the Lower Silesian Branch of the Polish Society of Bridge Engineers, and encourage younger generation to be active in the national and international events of IABSE.

From 19-22 May, 2020, the Polish Group of IABSE, along with the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology shall co-organise the next edition of the International Steel Bridges Competition (ISBC), a contest popular among young engineers, in the campus of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, which shall run parallel to the international IABSE Symposium Wrocław 2020. The 8th competition edition is organised under the general topic “Design – Build –Test”. The main contest rules should be as much as possible similar to bridge investment process – from design, through construction to proof-load tests.
