Meet at St.Augustine University, School of Civil Engineering and Site Visits
On 14th February 2025, the IABSE Group of Tanzania hosted more than 100+ students and lecturers from St. Augustine University, School of Civil Engineering. The aim of the event was to give theoretical and practical knowledge for the construction of Extradosed Bridge and offer a forum for emerging structural engineers students to forge connections, exchange knowledge, and progress in their careers collective. lt and help them to understand the latest technology used for the constructions of J. Site visit of Msalato Airport
The IABSE group of Tanzania on 29 January 2025 visited the ongoing Construction of Msalato International Airport. The of aim of the technical visit was to understand the latest advanced technology used for the Construction of Msalato Airport and bridging the gap among civil engineers in support of the Association’s mission of sharing knowledge and advancing the practice of structural engineering worldwide in the service of the profession society. The visit was divided in two session technical presentation and site visit guided by the Supervision team M/s Beza Consulting Engineers Plc in association with M/s Ambicon Engineering Ltd & Afrisa Consulting Ltd.
The main features of the Project are the Construction of: Passenger terminal building; Air traffic Control tower; Fire Station; Power and Substation; MTO Building; MEP Building; Airside Works (Runway, Taxiway and Apron); Roads and Car Parks; Fences and gates; Water System; Electrical works
The passenger terminal building utilized shallow foundation with 1071 total footing, The air traffic control tower with height of 56m utilizing raft foundation for inner perimeter and pile foundation of 1.0m diameter of 20m length for outer perimeter. The airport adopts steel roof truss with welded ball joint resting on top of elastomeric bearings at support columns.
The Msalato international airport located at the Capital City of Tanzania is going to serve 1.5 million passengers per year after its completion.

Founding of the National Group Meeting
22 November 2024, a group of seven IABSE members and six guests met for the first 'inaugural meeting' to start the new Tanzanian National Group. Participants met at Kigongo in the Mwanza Region. You can read more about the meeting, click here..
