Heliosflora Terminal for Metro de Granada, Spain Project Description: The Metro de Granada's photovoltaic and green canopy gracefully integrates with the Vega’s periurban agrarian landscape. Established on pre-existing foundations, comprises 9000 sqm of low-upkeep flora and 1,600 solar panels, fulfilling 10% of Metro's energy needs—exemplifying an elegant, bold, luminous, and lightweight architectural structure, affirming Metro’s environmental stewardship. Judges Comments This canopy over the maintenance depot for Granada’s Metro trains is formed from a series of tessellated triangles, with careful control of natural light and ventilation to enable work to be carried out underneath even in the hottest ambient temperature conditions. The roof structure is a series of lightweight steel trusses in a distinctive arrangement of triangular panels which makes the building appear very transparent, and the whole canopy incorporates solar panels and includes a green roof.
