Huajiang Gorge Bridge, China Project Description: The Huajiang Gorge Bridge is the world's highest (625m) and the longest-span (1420m) bridge in mountainous areas. Through innovative and sustainable bridge-tourism initiatives, outstanding structure, and elegant solutions, it brings great development benefits to the local ethnic minority region and community, serving as a global model of bridge-tourism integration. Judges Comments The Huajiang Gorge Bridge stands in challenging and inaccessible mountainous regions over a deep gorge. The long span suspension bridge required innovative construction planning to enable deck erection, which was achieved through the use of a very long overhead cable crane, rotating the heavy truss girder segments through 90 degrees so that they could be delivered along the already completed deck.
