Description
The theme of the conference was “Engineering the Past, to meet the needs of the Future” and in the following pages you will find the technical papers presented and discussed.
The Conference aimed to provide a forum for structural engineers, owners, operators, designers, researchers, contractors and suppliers to meet, discuss and exchange ideas and experiences, within the topics of operation and maintenance of bridges and other civil engineering structures. The management of bridges and other civil engineering structures involves significant expenditures, and at a time of constrained public resources, it requires difficult decisions to prioritise for operation and maintenance.
Every day engineers, researchers and public and private agencies strive to make decisions, which are efficient with due respect of reliability, availability, safety, health, economy and environmental aspects. Latest advances in technology and experience from operation and maintenance of bridges and other civil engineering structures should be shared to enable engineers, researchers and public or private agencies to plan ahead.
It is hoped that through knowledge sharing, the conference participants will return home with new ideas, enhanced knowledge and an extended global network of experts in structural engineering, and operation and maintenance of our structures. We all face the task of Engineering the Past, to meet the needs of the Future, every day.
