Design & Construction Techniques of Well (Caisson) Foundations

Mission Statement/Objectives
To increase awareness about the history of the design and construction of Well Foundation for Bridges, Tall Chimneys, Transmission Towers and other structures, to promote improvement in design practices involving historic/existing structures.


Scope & Limitation

TG1.11 will be focussed on creating a SED on the subject highlighting application of well foundation since historical times all over the world, its advantages, disadvantages and its limitations. The SED will demonstrate how contemporary engineering education worldwide can benefit from the state of practice that is prevalent in South-Asia, Japan and few other parts of the world for centuries.


Expected Project Output

It is the aim of this task group to propose a guideline in the form of IABSE report (SED book).
