Project Description:

The Sanya stadium creates a light and transparent space to realize architectural beauty, it is the largest stadium in the southernmost island of China; CFRP cable and high-strength cast steel were used for the first time in large-scale spatial structures, enhancing structural lightness and driving technological advancements in material manufacturing.

Judges Comments

This is a large sports stadium with a cable truss roof spanning 305m x 207m and using CFRP cables to achieve a lightweight solution. A perimeter steel truss provides the compression ring, and the radial elements adopt a convex profile to achieve further weight saving. Special corrugated anchorage details prove the terminations for the CFRP cables. The stadium is the primary venue for the Asian Beach Games and is situated in an area subject to severe typhoon winds.
