TAC.T Bridge, Japan

Project Description:

TAC.T BRIDGE is built on the site of the R&D division of a Japanese general contractor. This project is the proposal for the realization of a decarbonized society with utilizing small diameter timbers, which is commonly distributed in Japan, and the environmentally friendly concrete, which adheres CO2 within the material.

Judges Comments

This extraordinary timber truss bridge, with an irregular arrangement of bracing elements, has been built at the contractor’s R&D department as a showcase for the cutting-edge technologies developed by the company. The bridge adopts a near-zero carbon approach in a sustainable solution using low carbon concrete and small diameter timber components which can all be re-used at the end of the bridge’s service life. A modular glass roof keeps the timber dry for maximum durability.
