Tian’e Longtan Bridge, China

Project Description:

Tian’e Longtan Bridge is a recently-built deck-type steel-reinforced concrete arch bridges in China with a world record-breaking effective span of 600 m. To overcome the significant difficulties and risks due to the huge span leap, systemic technological innovations have been conducted on this bridge and fairly good results achieved.

Judges Comments

This 600m span arch bridge is the longest of its kind in the world and represents a giant leap from the previous world record. The design incorporates a number of innovative features, including composite steel-concrete arch ribs where the steel core is a high strength steel truss with concrete-filled chords, and has already been tested by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake directly at the site. The overall appearance with haunched concrete side spans is an elegant design, considering its scale, which is well suited to the site.
