The multi-span cable stayed bridge with 4 tall steel pylons and 3 x 340m main spans, carries both a twin track railway and dual carriageway highway over the estuary of the Xijiang River. A central steel box girder with four webs is supported by the cable stays each side of the railway envelope, and wide cantilevers on each side carry the roadways. The unusually tall pylons help to provide the necessary stiffness and stability to control deflections under unsymmetrical live load patterns.
