Project Description:

DTSS2 T-09 Contract comprises the detailed design and construction of 7.9 km of used water tunnels with an internal diameter of 6 m, interconnected with multiple online and offline shafts, hydraulic structures, and other air management facilities, located with one of the busiest and densely populated areas of Singapore.

Judges Comments

This 7.9km long tunnel under Singapore incorporates a number of innovative features and was constructed using the largest Tunnel Boring Machine in Singapore at the time. The 7.56m diameter TBM was launched 50m below ground level using a new “flying Launch” method for the first time in Asia. The project makes extensive use of Microbiological Influenced Corrosion resistant concrete, developed and tested specifically to resist the harsh and aggressive environmental conditions inside the tunnel.
