Fishbone Process Flow, Saudi Arabia – Bahrain Project Description:
The significance of the fishbone flow cabins project lies in its ability to increase passenger capacity within the limited space of the procedures area between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Bahrain. This project has contributed to reducing travel procedures time from 2 hours to 20 minutes during peak hours and accommodating a larger number of vehicles simultaneously, 2500 vehicles per hour.

The design of the border crossing on the causeway between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain demanded an efficient system for handling the large volumes of traffic. The original arrangement of the passport control booths and traffic lanes was leading to excessive delays and the new “fishbone” arrangement is a big improvement. Double layer grid space frame roof structures are used to cover the space in long strips, for an efficient and lightweight solution.
