Pocheon Hantan River Y-Shaped Suspension Bridge, Republic of Korea Project Description: The Pocheon Hantan River Y-Shaped Suspension Bridge, installed in Pocheon-si Gyeonggi-do is an asymmetric Y-shape bridge. To to ensure the structural integrity and meticulous construction management of the bridge, innovative techniques such as the central duplex structure, continuous cabling at the central part, and shape control using Global Navigation Satellite System were employed. Judges Comments This three-way suspension bridge, with an open mesh floor, affords spectacular views over the surrounding landscape for those brave pedestrians who dare to cross. Construction involved first laying out the cables on the ground, all connected to the special fabricated central node, and then lifting the entire assembly by incrementally pulling in the cables at the abutments. Vertical and lateral geometry control required the use of GPS technology to position the centre node with an accuracy of 7mm.
